Power washers are great to have around the house. I use mine every summer for cleaning the built up dirt and mold off of my house. Since I live near a busy road dust accumulates on the siding very quickly and the best way I have found to clean it is with one of these machines. I have owned several different models over the years and have found only a couple of brands that work great and can take the amount of work that I put them through.
Generac makes some of the best machines I have found. They are very well made and with proper maintenance they will last for many years. The most important thing to remember to do with these models is to change the oil as often as you can. This keeps the engine running smoothly. Old or heavily used oil damages the engine and can even lock it up.
There are many features I feel are a must have when considering which model to buy. One of the most important for me is how easy the unit is to transport. I sometimes pack up my unit and take it to an apartment complex where I do some side work cleaning the buildings and patios. It is important that the unit is light enough for me to take in and out of my vehicle without breaking my back. Another important factor to consider is how much pressure is needed to get the job done. Water pressure is very important when it comes to concrete surfaces. I prefer a model that will put out at least 2,500 psi. This is usually more than enough pressure for cleaning concrete patios and brick siding. It is also very important to me that the unit is easy to store. My garage is already packed with stuff and the ability to store all of the accessories on the unit is great.
I have included on this page some of the top rated power washers that I have found to be of outstanding quality, durability, and great price. Be sure to check out the links to see all of the product details and great reviews.

6) AR Blue Clean AR112 1,600 PSI 1.58 GPM Electric Hand Carry Power Washer Review
If you want something with a slightly less power than the previous review of the AR383 you might want to take a look at AR Blue AR112. At 1,600 PSI it has slightly less punch than the 383. What benefits can you possibly get from an electric power washer with less power? Well, for one thing, it is a little cheaper than the bigger versions. This power range will also mean that it is quieter and even easier to move around than many power washers out there.
Electric Power Washer
If you have been manually scrubbing those garden steps or that over used barbecue grill, you might want to get your feet wet (literally!) on an Electric Power Washer. The job that most men hate (washing and scrubbing), suddenly becomes a blast! You will actually enjoy these chores and your outdoor furniture appliances will be cleaner, look more beautiful, and therefore have a more extended lifespan.
Imagine that barbecue easily stripped of black soot, dirt and grime. Imagine how your house will look like from the outside with walls spic and span. Your house will look like it has a perpetually new paint job!
Electric Power Washers are considered as entry level by some. They have lesser power than their Gas powered counterparts. However, due to the advancement in technology, Electric Power Washers are catching up in terms of PSI(Pounds per Square Inch) and GPM (Gallons per Minute).
Electric Power Washers are ideal for cleaning outdoor surfaces around the house and relatively small objects like outdoor appliances and furniture, cars, boats and the like. What’s great about electric power washers is that they are more quiet than gas powered washers, and they are also generally cheaper. They are also lighter and more maneuverable.
So if you are looking for a power washer that you will be using around the house, you really don’t need the industrial strength of a gas powered washer. For your average weekend around the house cleaning, a1900 PSi/1.5GM Electric Power Washer is definitely the right one for you.
Gas Pressure Washer
If you have large areas that you need to clean quickly, or if you have to strip paint, probably an electric washer won’t be much help. As mentioned previously, Gas Pressure Washers beat the electric power washers by a mile. Remember, the worst gas washers still beat the best of the electric washers.
Probably the most important thing to consider is whether or not you really need all that power. Too much PSi and you risk damaging the items you are trying to clean. Soft wood or glass will not survive the force of water traveling at such high speeds.
Once you have decided that you need a gas pressure washer, make sure that the engine of the one you’ll be getting complies with the emission standards of your state. Remember, these are gas powered washers, and they will emit a certain degree of pollution, unlike electric washers which are generally cleaner and pollution free.
Power Washer Ratings
Here are the 3 main units of measurements used for Power Washer Ratings. You have to know these measurments to be able to determine what you need, and you will be encoutering these measurements throughout the entire site.
Pounds per Square Inch (PSi)
This is how much water pressure is exerted. Since we are talking about power washers, this is how hard the pump/engine is pushing the water through the tiny nozzle. The tougher the jobs you have to do, the more PSi you need. Note: PSi is used universally for water and air (like tire pressure), so this is a good unit of measurement to know.
Gallons Per Minute (GPM)
Water flow is measured in GPM, or how much water is consumed. With more GPM, more surface area can be covered by a a pressure washer.
Cleaning Units (CU)
Finally we have Cleaning Units, or CU. This is simply PSi x GPM. Given 2 washers with the same PSi, the one with the bigger GPM will use more water than the other one, cleaning faster, and therefore has more Cleaning units.
So there you have it, these are main units of measurements for power washers. If you are already looking around at some power washer specs, you will surely encounter these terms.
